A.K. Prabhakar is a Telugu literary critic and editor. He taught Sanskrit and Telugu for 35 years in the Telugu and Kannada-speaking states before retiring. His research on dialect short fiction was published as Telugulo Mandalika Kathasahityam (Dialect Short Fiction in Telugu).

He has edited more than 30 books, including Dakkali Jamba Puranam, Jayadhir Tirumala Rao’s seven-volume Tovva Muchchatlu, Julur Gouri Shankar’s Yuddhavachanam, Bandi Narayanaswamy’s Rayalaseema: Samajam Sahityam, Mukunda Rama Rao’s Ade Nela and Endapalli Bharathi’s story collection Pachabottu. He has also written Vemana Daarilo, a commentary on selected Vemana poems, and Samakaleenam, a collection of essays on story criticism.

A lover of progressive movement literature, he believes identity movements should move together rather than in fragments, towards the liberation of the oppressed.

‘డక్కలి జాంబ పురాణం’, జయధీర్ తిరుమలరావు ‘తొవ్వ ముచ్చట్లు’ (ఏడు భాగాలు), జూలూరి గౌరీశంకర్ ‘యుద్ధవచనం’, బండి నారాయణస్వామి ‘రాయలసీమ: సమాజం సాహిత్యం’, ముకుంద రామారావు ‘అదే నేల’, ఎండపల్లి భారతి కథల సంపుటి ‘పచ్చబొట్టు’ సహా 30కి పైగా పుస్తకాలకు సంపాదకత్వం వహించారు. ‘వేమన దారిలో’ పేరుతో ఎంపిక చేసిన వేమన పద్యాలకు వ్యాఖ్యానం రాశారు; ‘సమకాలీనం’ పేరుతో కథా విమర్శ వ్యాస సంపుటి వెలువరించారు.

ప్రగతిశీల ఉద్యమ సాహిత్యాన్ని ప్రేమించే ప్రభాకర్, అస్తిత్వ ఉద్యమాలు శకలాలుగా కాక ఏకోన్ముఖంగా సాగి, చివరకు పీడిత ప్రజల విముక్తికి దారి తీయాలని ఆకాంక్షిస్తారు.
