Srinivas Denchanala is a renowned Poet, theatre director, playwright, actor, and critic. A pioneer of contemporary and postmodern Telugu free verse poetry and theatre, he has contributed to regional and national cultures through his work in theatre, literature, and folk arts for 41 years.
Founder of Janapadam Modern Travelling Theatre Repertory (1984), he has written, translated, adapted, scenographed, directed and performed numerous plays include regional, national, and international productions. His work explores the universal human suffering and struggles of marginalized communities as well, giving voice to the voiceless. He popularised his philosophy of making post modern-contemporary political professional theatre with indigenous and urban artists is unique in its kind in Indian Theatre. He is performing in urban, rural, tribal areas of two states and in some of national and international festivals in India. A nominee for the Padma Shri award (2026), he is hailed as a living legend, receiving numerous regional and national awards for his contributions to theatre and literature.
