Mehak Hyderabadi

Mehak Hyderabadi(62) is a retired Telugu Journalist, Urdu-Telugu Translator of fiction and Non-fiction, Shayar. He is member of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) in Ministry of Higher Education, Government of India. Mehak translated 150 Short Stories, One Novel and Non-Fiction penned by reputed Urdu Writers. Till now, 10 translation works were published. He translated Jeelani Bano’s two Anthologies into Telugu (Guppita Jaare Isuka & Antaa Nijame Chepta) and her Childhood memoir (Terichina Pustakam). He also brought two Anthologies of Manto into Telugu entitled (Saadat Hasan Manto Stories & Manto Classics). He translated Amrita Pritam’s path-breaking “Pinjar” novel from
Urdu into Telugu entitled “Asthipanjaram”. Mehak translated Makhdoom Mohiuddin’s much controversial Urdu book on the state of affairs in erstwhile Hyderabad State which was banned by Nizam Government into Telugu and English. He also translated Prominent Socialist leader Cheruku Madhava Reddy’s book on “Hyderabad Ki Awami Jang” written way back in 1948. He translated Marathi Novelist and Dalit Folk Poet Anna Bhau Sathe’s stories into Telugu entitled “Anna Bhau Sathe Kathalu” from Hindi. Mehak under took ambitious project on his own to bring best Urdu Stories penned by erstwhile Hyderabad based writers spanning in the last hundred years. In 2023, he published first Anthology entitled “GULDASTA”, a specialised Anthology which contains Stories written by Muslim writers on Hindu lives and their beliefs and sentiments. Mehak presently working on three Urdu-Telugu Translation Projects (one Anthology, one Novel and one Monograph) assigned by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. He is recipient of Suravaram Pratap Reddy Telugu University best translation Award for his book “Guppita Jare Isuka” He wrote nearly 25 Ghazals which were published Siasat, Munsif and Etemad Dailies. He also translated number of Urdu Articles written by prominent personalities into Telugu.
