Shajahana Begum
Shajahana Begum, hailing from Kamalapuram in Khammam district with ancestral roots in Rajolu, Warangal, is a prominent Telugu poet. Born to Dr. Dilawar and Yakubbi, she grew up in a literary environment and completed her education in Khammam. She holds an M.A. in Telugu from Koti Women’s College, an M.Phil (Gold Medal) from Telugu University, and a Ph.D. from Osmania University.
Her poetry reflects the voices and experiences of Muslim women, exploring social issues, gender discrimination, and communal harmony. Her published works include Mohar, Fiza, Mera Jahaan, Wounded Soul, and Tanmaya. Shajahana’s writings have been translated into English, Hindi, German, and Kannada.
A recipient of several state and national literary awards, she represented India at the Frankfurt (2006) and Moscow (2009) Book Fairs. Her sister, Shamsad Begum, is also a noted poet.
